OLESTRA

Oh RIGHT!

Once again our research chemists have come up with a nutritional breakthrough. A way to "fool" mother nature. Once again modern science is smarter than God.

Procter & Gamble, the Cincinnati-based multinational, has invested $500 million in developing a sucrose polyester called olestra, which it sees as the basis for the next generation of healthy foods. Its tests, it says, show that olestra is perfectly safe.

Olestra is a chemical that has no nutritional value, that has been tested for toxicity for as long as 39 weeks... on PIGS. Are we PIGS? Does the fact that no pig died in 39 short weeks mean that Olestra is safe for long term consumption? They have been working on it for 25 years. New research indicates that: "Olestra's warning label should also alert consumers that the fake fat may increase the rate of cancer, heart disease, and blindness," says Harvard's Walter Willett.

The Cambridge trial, involving 76 volunteers who ate sucrose polyester as part of their diet for three months, showed that it lowered levels of the protective factors vitamin E and carotenoids in the body and caused significant bowel upsets in almost a third of the volunteers. This is perfectly SAFE?

Olestra passes through our digestive system without being absorbed. Great! Olestra appears to rob the body of anything that dissolves in fat. Do you know that it absorbs Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Vitamin K, and Vitamin E, and carries them out of your body too? "Nutrition Action Health Letter" states that "Eating eight grams a day of Olestra ---about 16 chips--- with meals for two weeks led to a 20 percent drop in lutein levels in the blood of volunteers, according to Procter & Gambles own study. Anything that lowers blood levels of lutein or zeaxanthin may contribute to macular degeneration (irreversible blindness). What else does it remove? carotenoids for one thing which protect you against cancer, heart disease, and macular degeneration!

Proctor & GAMBLE plans to fortify foods containing Olestra with artificial supplements of the same vitamins the Olestra is removing. (Not all of them, just the ones there is an RDA for.) Sounds like a GAMBLE to me, and a smelly one at that. I wonder if Proctor & GAMBLE is also going to sell underwear? Anal leakage does not indicate to me that all is well within. About a third of the volunteers in P&G's own studies got diarrhea when they ate 20 grams of olestra a day. That's about how much you'd get in a two-ounce single-serving bag of potato chips.

P&G says they have controlled anal leakage by a new "stiffer version of olestra, but their own data shows that it's not so. What's more people who ate moderate amounts of olestra had to contend with stained underwear and "greasy feces" That gives a whole new meaning to the term "snack attack"

Procter and Gamble has received more than 13,000 adverse reaction reports on it's toll free hotline since 19767 + the 2000 reports phoned in to CSPI's Olestra Hotline (888-OLESTRA). Complaints ranged from mild stomach upset, to cramps so severe that in scores of cases victims had to be hospitalized......"WOW" just found this E-Mail note on the net:

>Many months ago I worked on a woman, 44 yrs, who had eaten a few olestra dorito-type chips. I noticed that the viewing tube and the disposable waistline were completely coated with an orange fatty substance. I asked her what she had eaten. It was difficult cleaning the viewing tube because the oily substance sticks to it and it dissolved with difficulty. The >client also experienced stomach cramping as a result of eating 'just a few.'

This week another client came in, a woman in her 50's, who had eaten a ton of them with her kids who were visiting. WOWS is the name of the product. The disposable tube and viewing tube were so larded with a plastic-type resin that I again asked what she had eaten. I recalled the other case and experience and asked if she had had any 'olestra' products! This time is was extremely difficult to cleanse the viewing tube and the 'olestra' stuck to the brush and even after I cleaned it with soap could not remove the 'olestra'. I had to throw out the brush after the session. It stuck to my gloves and anything I touched and it had me greatly concerned.
The woman has no desire to use the 'olestra' products again and was shocked by the effect it had on my equipment. I am wondering if 'olestra' does this to a plastic viewing tube and a brush, WHAT IS IT DOING TO THE GI TRACT. It makes sense it would rob the body of minerals and other nutrients as the UK post stated. Would it create a plastic-type coating on the walls? Would is disturb the bacterial habitat that is part of the immune system?

I wanted to report this to you because it is of great concern and shock to me. Keep on keeping' on, girl!
