DRUGS If you let other people do it for you,
(take care of you or your health)
...they will do it TO you
"The desire to take medicine is perhaps the greatest failure which distinguishes man from animals"
Sir William Osler, one of the most brilliant physicians of recent times.
He also said, "The greater the ignorance, the greater the dogmatism."
You have a headache, your compassionate friend or doctor prescribes aspirin. The aspirin causes internal bleeding, and your headache goes away! A drug "cures" your complaint by creating a disease of its own. If the poison of the drug, whatever drug you want to name, is more life threatening to the body than the symptom for which you took the drug (or the doctor's prescription for such), then your symptoms will disappear. (Dr. Joel R. Robbins MD). If the drug is not more life threatening, then it will not produce symptomatic relief and the doctor will prescribe a stronger more poisonous more life threatening drug. Now the body will be forced to focus on the drug so that the drug literally doesn't kill the body. See Stamina. You become symptom free.
Yet the cause of the disease was not eliminated, and true healing did not take place. Since there is no such thing as a drug deficiency, the body simply put the disease process on hold to eliminate the drug.
Does a laxative move the bowels? It might seem that way, but what actually happens is when you ingest all that poison, the body says "I'm being poisoned" and it steals water and energy from all over your body to move the laxative out. Did you solve the digestive problem that caused you to take the laxative in the first place? Hardly.
STRESS is a popular topic these days, with all sorts of TV advertised drugs to relieve it. Here again, all that the drug does is shift the body's focus from your mental stress to a physical one.
The thing about a drug, is that the body HAS to do what ever the drug tells it to do. It doesn't matter that it may cause irreparable damage to internal organs. It just does it anyway as directed.
I have come to appreciate symptoms as friends.
Imagine someone with leprosy if you can. Hard to do for most of us as this disease has virtually been eliminated. Most people have no idea that the problem in leprosy is that people do not feel pain.
Because leprosy patients have an impaired sense of pain they lose their feedback loops. They could be sleeping at night and a rat could chew on their fingers and they would have no idea this was happening and not even wake up.
They could also get a pebble in their shoe and not have any pain and continue to walk until the pebble created a terrible ulcer in their foot that could get infected and cause them to have their foot amputated.
So although most of us would like to avoid pain and not experience it becomes quite clear that pain is a very valuable gift to us and really serves to keep us healthy.
That is why the drug model is so dangerous. It basically allows us to induce a form of chemical leprosy that blinds us to the underlying cause of the problem and the damage continues to occur because we are not using the pain to guide us to a permanent foundational solution.
Dr. Mercola
Drug therapy defies all logic when we consider that any drug administered to a healthy person will make him sick, and yet the doctor prescribes these very poisons to a sick person and expects him to get well. How can he be poisoned back to health? (Dr. Joel Robbins). Would it be too strong to say that drugs are toxic? Well, they are! In addition, 90% of all drugs interfere with normal nutrient metabolism. This means that many older people who take drugs regularly, don't absorb much of the nutrition they do eat.
It has been estimated that 1 out of every 5 persons over the age of 60 suffers from an adverse reaction to a medication. Approximately 250,000 people are hospitalized each year due to a medication side effect or drug interaction. 100,000 Americans DIE from them. JAMA 4/15/98. It has also been estimated that 13% of the U.S. population (those over 65 years) take more than one-third of the total drugs prescribed every year in this country. As the baby boomers edge toward 50, this number will undoubtedly rise, as the proportion of the U.S. population over 65 steadily grows.
Recent studies, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, April 15, 1998, analyze adverse drug effects, from simple rashes to life-threatening complications. These side effects from common prescription and over-the-counter medications are the THIRD leading cause of death in the United States. Dr. Mercola thinks that Doctors and Drugs are the number one cause of deaths in the US. According to Dr. stephen T. Sinatra, M.D., F.A.C.C, over 6,000 Americans actually DIE every year from NSAID-related complications. From taking PAIN relievers!. See Aspirin Side-effects.
See Chronic Fatigue Syndrome & Fibromyalgia. These reactions occur largely from inappropriate drug combinations, allergies, and overdosing. A six month study at two Boston Hospitals found 247 adverse drug effects. Of those: 57% were significant. ...... OOPS!
30% serious..........Where does it hurt?
12% life-threatening.............Calling Dr. K.. report to room 24
1% fatal............. (I guess that means [in doctor talk], that 2.47 people died.)
From "The Corner Drug Store" CD, Pixel Perfect Software, 407-779-0310 (you should have this) Perhaps this is why 50% of prescriptions given are never filled, and 50% of those filled are never completed.
Do you think this BUGS your doctor?
(Estimate by Dr. Sidney Crackower)
I suggest that you MAKE SURE your doctor informs you of the risks, (contra-indications) of any drug he prescribes. Drugs are Dangerous.
Ralph Nader's group did a study a few years ago that resulted in the following statement. "300,000 people a year are killed by drugs & doctors." He said "KILLED". Other doctors think the number is half of that, but it is something to think about. According to U.S. News and world Report, 400 people in the U.S. die every single day from the side effects of drugs.
Prescription Drugs
taken as directed
are the 4th leading cause of death in America
Adverse drug reactions are now the fourth biggest killer, after heart disease, cancer and stroke. The suggestion is that these are considerably under-reported, and the problem is actually much worse. ( JAMA, 1998; 279; 1200-05)
Why is there this over prescribing of drugs?
Most doctors only get paid nowadays by your insurance company when they write a prescription. Doctors need to eat too. No prescription means that you were not sick, thus no fee either to the doctor or to the medical facility for which he works.. The more dangerous the drug, the more serious the "disease", the more they make. Logically, the thing bothering you is a cash cow, a "Golden Goose". It would not be logical to kill the Golden Goose (cure you) would it? Most profitable would be to treat the symptoms, and keep them (and you) under their control.
Drugs have their place in the sun of course. Major repairs like broken bones and trauma are situations where intrusive measures are needed to stay alive. Elective surgery seems to be quite popular today, especially when the recipient doesn't have to pay for it, but it is of debatable value. Certain procedures presently recommended by doctors to expand arteries have, according to some publications, no statistical record of prolonging life, neither has prostate surgery.
The suggestion here is that you need to take responsibility for your own health. If you eat a balanced diet, in all likelihood you will never have need for any of the above. But I guess if you decide that your present lifestyle is worth it, then you may have to discover some chemical means of reducing the resultant symptoms, allergies and pain.
