Athletes in great
physical condition can be in poor health Notes from a talk give by Dr. John Corcoran, M.D., OBGYN - Toronto 11-18-04 Dr. Corcoran commented that it's really a failure of a modern society that so many people, including those in medicine, do not appreciate the great importance of how much nutrition impacts our lives. Regardless of whether people see the connection, the connection is there. Ignoring facts doesn't make them any less real. Dr. Corcoran has always emphasized 5 main preventive areas of health to his patients. 1. Water - stay well hydrated. 2. Get control and reduce the stress in your life. Too much stress creates a lot of free radical accumulation. 3. Nutrition. Stop eating so much processed junk and eat more plant-based foods. Cut down on the sugar. Simple refined carbohydrates convert quickly in to sugar and that's not good. 4. Exercise. Just do it, regularly. Dr. Corcoran has been a runner most of his life and often averaged 30 miles/wk. As an athlete, he was very concerned that athletes get proper nutrition, here's why: Athletes burn a lot of energy and oxygen that creates a lot of oxidative stress and free radicals that speeds up the ageing process and disease processes. When you go for your yearly physical and get your blood work done, make sure you find out your homocysteine level. Healthy people studied in Australia had healthy homocysteine levels under 10. After taking Juice PLUS+ for 43 days, their homocysteine levels dropped 8.4% on average and to a level on average under 8. People in Italy that had higher homocysteine levels were also studied.
